Chicago Attractions and Activities

Oh, the things one can do here in the city of Chicago, Illinois! Take a ferry through the river at a low price to sightsee the various interesting sights situated near the Chicago River. Or perhaps you would like to visit Navy Pier, a massive fifty-acre agglomeration of exhibits, family attractions, shops, restaurants, gardens, and parks. Not much of a theme park enthusiast? Not a problem either here in the Windy City, as there are many landmarks that one can visit, such as Glessner House, one of Chicago’s first official landmarks. Oh? You prefer learning about the culture and history of the various tribes that lived here as well as some other important historical things? That isn’t a problem here in Chicago, Illinois, as multiple museums dot the city.

First off, we shall discuss the Navy Pier. Why is this one pier important you may ask? Well, I’ll let you know that it draws nearly nine million visitors to it every year! And to top it all off, it is the number one leisure destination in the entirety of the American Midwest, as well as being Chicago’s number one tourist attraction.

It offers many entertainment and/or leisure options, such as sightseeing tours, or perhaps for those with refined tastes, dinner tours! The attraction has fireworks displays on Wednesday and Saturday nights during the summer and only on the latter in the fall season.

On things other than its ice rink or shopping and dining areas, it also has many outdoor attractions that one usually sees at a carnival, such as the Pepsi Wave Swinger, Light Tower Ride, Remote Control Boats, and the Carousel. They also have a maze called the Amazing Chicago’s Funhouse Maze. There also is a museum that both kids and adults can enjoy, and for those with an inclination to Shakespeare, say no more! They have the Chicago Shakespeare Theater located at the pier as well. An IMAX theater also exists.

Another important place in Chicago that is a must visit during tours in the city is McCormick Place, which is, beyond a shadow of a doubt, the largest convention center in all of North America. Here, one may witness the numerous trade shows and events that are done there. Some of the largest events that are regular in appearance are the Chicago Auto Show each February, the International Home and Housewares Show during the month of March, and the National Restaurant Association every May. Convention sales for McCormick Place are handled by the city’s official tourism organization, Choose Chicago.

Now we shall talk about some of the landmarks of Chicago that one can go sightseeing to. One of these is the John J. Glessner House, which is being operated as the Glessner House Museum. Another, rather iconic one for the Windy City, is the Chicago Board of Trade Building.

The second largest art museum in the United States is located here in the city as well, called the Art Institute of Chicago. There also are architecture museums, such as the Charnley-Persky House and Robie House. Located in Lincoln Park, is the Chicago History Museum, one of the largest museums inside Chicago, and a must visit for history fans.
